At the FIFA Women’s World Cup, our team has recovered from the shock of their first game loss and is ready for their second game against Morocco.
After losing to Colombia in a must-win situation, but with the possibility of advancing to the round of 16, our players were able to pick themselves up and start playing again.
Coach Colin Bell started the recovery drill with a game of futsal to cheer the players up, and they shook off the gloom and revitalized their spirits.
[Go! Go! Go!]
Needless to say, they did.
They need to win their second game against Morocco on Sunday by as many points as possible to keep their hopes alive going into the final game against Germany.
Bell has signaled a tactical shift to more attacking soccer against Morocco, and has ordered his players to play more aggressively.
[Colin Bell/Women’s Head Coach:] The players need to bounce back. We learned a lesson against Colombia, our decision-making wasn’t quick enough. We have a habit with our players of ‘slow down, cross, get down, slow down’. We want to move forward. Football has to be forward].
After winning the match 5-0, Japan defeated Costa Rica 2-0 in the second leg to book their place in the round of 16 early with two straight wins.
