‘Salas, the monster, finally broke out!’

Ethan Salas, 17, a top prospect for Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres, has hit his first professional home run.

Salas, who plays for San Diego’s Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm, arched the ball over the fence against Fresno on July 7 at Chukchansi Stadium in Fresno, California, USA. He hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning as Elginore took a 2-1 lead. It was his first home run in a week since making his debut on May 31.

The blast broke up a slump at the plate. After going 5-for-4 with three walks in his first two games, he was 1-for-14 since then. The Venezuelan-born Salas just turned 17 years old. That’s about four years younger than the average age of players currently playing in the California League (Single-A).
