The Dodgers started Mookie Betts-Freddie Freeman-Will Smith-Amed Rosario-Max Muncy-David Peralta-Chris Taylor-Kike Hernandez-Miguel Rojas.
Oakland countered with a batting order of Jonah Bride, Seth Brown, Zack Geloff, Ramon Loriano, Brandon Rooker, Aledmys Diaz, Jordan Diaz, J.J. Bledsoe, Shea Langelius, and Tyler Soderstrom.
After missing a two-out rally in the first inning, the Dodgers got on the board in the second. Back-to-back doubles by Hernandez and Rojas plated a run. A sacrifice bunt by Barnes and a hit by pitch by Betts put runners on first and third. Freeman and Smith stole second and third, respectively, but were stranded on swinging strikes. In the third inning, Muncy and Hernandez walked to load the bases, and Rojas doubled to center to score one more run.
After being silenced in the fifth, Oakland got a run back in the top of the sixth on a solo archer by Gelbrecht with the bases loaded, but the Dodgers completed their big inning in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back singles by Barnes and Betts were followed by RBI singles by Smith, Rosario, and Peralta. Down by five, Oakland got one run back in the top of the eighth on Soderstrom’s solo arch to right-center, but nothing dramatic happened. The Dodgers drove in a run in the eighth on Freeman’s solo shot and Taylor’s RBI single.
Dodgers starter Julio Urias earned his eighth win of the season with five innings of three-hit ball, one walk and five strikeouts. Freeman led the offense with three hits, including a home run, one RBI and one run scored, while Rojas had two hits and two RBI and Rosario added two hits.
Oakland starter J.P. Sears pitched relatively well with five innings of two-run ball (six hits, five walks, five strikeouts), but got no help from his offense and was saddled with the loss.
