100th goal Son Heung-min, two-handed ceremony “dedicated to the deceased maternal grandfather”

Tottenham striker Son Heung-min (31) scored his 100th emotional EPL personal goal and held a ceremony by raising both hands to the sky, not his signature. There was a reason. It was a ceremony dedicated to his maternal grandfather who had recently passed away.

Son Heung-min started in the home game against Brighton & Hove Albion in the 30th round of the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on the 8th (Korean time) and scored in the 10th minute of the first half. This was Son Heung-min’s 100th personal EPL goal. It is an impressive record achieved in 8 years since the league debut in 2015. With this, Son Heung-min became the 34th player ever to score his 100th EPL goal. This is a first for an Asian player.

His 100th goal was also like Son Heung-min. It was a proprietary right-footed kick shot. Son Heung-min, who caught the ball from the left side of the penalty arc, also known as the ‘Son Heung-min Zone’, immediately fired a shot when he had a chance after dribbling. It drew a fantastic trajectory and was inserted into the upper right corner of the goal. The Brighton goalkeeper slammed his body and tried to reach his hand, but couldn’t reach it. It was a perfect and fantastic goal.스포츠토토

However, Son Heung-min did not do the ‘click’ ceremony that he always showed after his 100th goal. He instead made a gesture pointing up at the sky with both his hands.

After the game, Son Heung-min said in an interview with the British BBC, “It’s something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s an amazing achievement that I couldn’t have achieved without my teammates.” He said, “I had mixed feelings because I had a difficult moment in the past few weeks. It was not easy because my grandfather passed away. I want to dedicate this goal to him.”

Even in an interview with a domestic broadcaster, Son Heung-min cried while mentioning his maternal grandfather who passed away. With the heart of thinking of his maternal grandfather, he conveyed it as a 100 home goal ceremony.

“I want all Asian players to see this achievement and believe that they can do it too,” Son said. I do,” he even left a hopeful message.

On the other hand, Son Heung-min entered the EPL stage wearing a Tottenham uniform in August 2015, and after 260 league games, he built a monumental tower for his 100th goal. He has scored a number of goals over the years. Son Heung-min scored 55 goals with his right foot, 41 goals with his left foot, and 4 goals with his head.

Son Heung-min, who scored his 100th EPL goal, stood shoulder to shoulder with Southampton legend and French striker Matthew Le Tissier. He is tied for 33rd all-time in EPL scoring. Now, the next goal is to surpass legend Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nasr), who is ranked 32nd and has scored 103 goals. Currently, legendary English striker Alan Shearer is the all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 260 goals.

After Son Heung-min scored his 100th goal, the EPL secretariat commemorated it by writing ‘Son Heung-min’ in Korean on the background photo. In addition, he sent a congratulatory message in Korean saying, “Congratulations. Heung-Min Son.”
